Weekend Part I

hello! sorry about my lack of posts, but college is busy! before starting on my usual overview of my experiences i want to just give you all my thoughts on the general college experience. (i just got done reading out of The Best American Essays if you're wondering where this is coming from lol).

My time is my own. No one is making me do anything. This is an interesting feeling because its really never been like this before. This means that I could choose to fill my time with everything I can get my hands on or do absolutely nothing and waste away my college years playing xbox 360 online. The trick is balancing the two, but I prefer to air on the busy side of things, even though the occasional round of Halo 3 against my buddies is amazingly entertaining. "The social scene is kind of mean" (name that song!) is not true. There are tons of amazing people here that are great to hang out with. Classes haven't begun to get hard yet, but I guess I'm not really taking that hard of classes to begin with. Some of my friends are having a Calculus II study time, and they are using the same book I used senior year!
More on general college experiences in later posts....
Friday was pretty much a normal day of classes. My comp class seems much more interesting than before which is good. My prof plays the bass and is in a band. (and all of a sudden he's cool! lol) CLT was interesting as always, I can tell I'm going to learn a lot there.
Later that night there was a kick off party which was sweet! they blew up a huge air screen onto which was projected Evan Almighty, which is not exactly my favorite movie but it was still fun. I met a guy named Kevin who wants my to play guitar in their band called Wildfire at a show coming up. They are all pretty sweet musicians! More on this as things happen. (first band practice is wednesday) I'm still looking to start my own band but this is fine because I am craving to break out the Mesa. Sarah and I took a walk afterwards :-). Austin, Ryan, Joey, and I played some wall-ball after that.. fun stuff.
--------------
Saturday was Jubilate (from now on reffered to as Jubba) retreat! We went to Proffessor O's (O'neel) church were we practiced and played some games. I love almost all of the songs we are singing. I think tryouts for the band are sometime this week! Can't wait for that. When I got back we played a volleyball tourney with our sister dorm. We lost the first and last but won the middle game. We then went out and played ultimate frisbee with them.. which was fun until one of my friends dislocated his kneecap. It was nasty! We got to call 911.. they showed up quick too! (He's alright and is now back in our dorm.. but no more frisbee for a while) Afterwards Sarah and I went out, which I unfortunately got lost on the way to springfield lol. so we ended up just stopping at a Wendy's and got ice cream. It was still fun, thats all that matters really right?
-----------------
Sunday I woke up to go with Sarah and some others to Grace Baptist. Its walkable, but its not CEFCH. Only three songs and then the message. The speakers was good but I really felt like he took too many liberties when interpreting Scripture. I really think he might have read into some things that weren't there. Next week I would like to try APEX, with the intent of playing in a worship band. (its impossible to replace CEFCH though :-( ). Missed everyone there this morning! Afterwards Sarah worked her first day at Chucks! (the cafeteria, which yes has a weird name) Later Joey, Austin, and I went to Beaver Creek (which is much easier to get to that Springfield IMO, and will be the location of our future dates lol) to go to Best Buy. Afterwards we ate at Panera, good stuff! Once we were back I did some homework, skyped the family, and am now writing to you all!
On tomorrow:
I find out about the puppet team/band (whether I made it)
I have my first guitar lesson!
Maybe I will get to bed early tonight
peace
zac

Right on with that first part about choosing how you spend your time. Also sounds sweet with all the things you've already become apart of, especially Jubba which is easily one of the coolest words out there.
