Feels Like -17

Yes, it is quite cold outside, and you read correct; today's temperature is a whopping 3 degrees, (-17 with windchill). The walk to the ENS at 8:30 was quite unpleasant as you could imagine. I probably shouldn't complain however because Ben heard that somewhere in Maine or something they had a "feels like -40".  Not fun! Snow however is lots of fun... unless your driving of course.

These past few days have been extremely busy filled with chapel band, touring team, and interruption practices, but all is well. On Monday's East to West (formerly know as Master's Puppets) practice Brandon (director of the Drama Touring teams) unveiled some of the new equipment for the team. My personal favorite was the Roland TD-9SX picture below.
Classes have continued to go well, my first quiz was this morning in physical science, which I was fairly confident on, although I am quite sure that the last problem was impossible. (lol) Playing in chapel on Monday and Wednesday went great, and my Macbook made a stage appearance where it played its loop quite successfully (from what I could hear) and we all had a lot of fun playing All Because of Jesus by Steve Fee.

Slammer

Tonight was "White-Out" Night here in the big city of Cedarville. Below is one of the better little videos I shot of Daniel Rows dunking against his Cavaliers opponents (Although he had much better ones). Tonight he scored his 1000 career Cedarville point in their victory over the Walsh Cavaliers, which was a very intense game. Afterwards the movie Cool Runnings was showing, which I had never seen before. Very inspiring stuff. Although I don't ever see myself going to the olympics... sorry to disappoint.

117, Maybe Twice

As I am jumping into classes, I am realizing that I like almost all of them, as stated below (yes.. politics isn't too bad), but Advanced       Audio Production is a favorite. Pictured to the right is the Apple 117 studio. Roughly $38,000 went into the studio, complete with Pro Tools HD 7.4.1. Sweet stuff!!! Taylor and I dropped by today to mess around with some things. The studio also has a closet full of some of the nicest mics around, which will help with future audio projects. My first project is a 5.1 surround "story" which I will be posting here upon completion. Later in the semester I will be doing an ADR (aka Audio Dialogue Replacement) project where I will take a scene from a well known movie, remove all the audio, and then put it all back in with my own sounds and voices. The third project, the most anticipated, is a music production. I've got some ideas there, and am looking forward to it.

Above and to the right I am testing out the console and to the left is the enormous effects and patch bay rack that sits to the right of the console. The rack contains some fabulous mounts such as reverb, EQ, and compressors. Some are old-school and some very new. Overall I am extremely impressed and thrilled with the Apple 117 studio.
Once again I appreciate your comments! Hopefully my next post will include a video, if I can figure that out. Until then please comment, and have an excellent weekend.
Cedarville is currently very cold, snow on the ground and the lake is mostly frozen. (When isn't that true though?) Austin and I learned that riding bikes after rain is a very bad idea. I only fell once I might point out. Maybe twice.

New Format

I know its been a while since my last post, but I'm here to announce that the blog is back with a new flavor. You have probably already noticed the new layout, but the theme has changed as well. Before this blog was about my day to day activities, which I must admit was a bit time consuming and tedious. From now on I will try to add some sort of media to my blogs, such as pictures from my new camera (Nikon Coolpix), a video, or an audio sample from something I have been working on. Today's pic is of my new live setup. The left is my normal guitar setup. (In case you care: Mesa Boogie Recto-Verb, Epiphone Les Paul Classic, Line 6 DL-4, Dan Electro FAB, Boss DS-1, Crybaby Way, Ernie Ball Volume). To the right is a very new addition however. Something that I have wanted to do for a while is looping in a live setting. Sarah had the organ pedal lying around (Roland PK-5) which hooks up to my Macbook and works using a program called Mainstage. Through this I can play pretty much any loops I want or even synth bass notes while playing guitar.

I am currently back at school enjoying everything (although I have yet to have politics yet) including all my classes. I get to use the above in chapel on Monday playing Steve Fee's "All Because of Jesus" which has a very sweet loop, so I'm very excited about that. My touring team officially has a name: East to West, and I absolutely cannot wait for practice to start next week. Feel free to leave me some comments, I, however, am off to Chucks. I hope you all had an excellent Christmas and New Years.

Brownsburg!!.....

Hello! I am excited to tell you all that this weekend was absolutely amazing! For those of you who didn't know.. this weekend, the Cedarville traveling teams took a trip to Brownsburg, Indiana (about 20 minutes from Indianapolis). The purpose of this trip was to practice a whole lot, get the experience of staying in a host home, and doing a church service Sunday morning.
We left campus at about 4 on thursday after classes. I was about a two hour drive which is not bad at all... most of you know that I love car rides! Tim has 3 weeks worth of music on his iPod, and I have 1 week so I don't think we will run out of music lol. Once we got there MP2 (no we still haven't changed the name yet) set up our stuff in a room where we could practice. I am in charge of setting up the stage. We spent the remainder of the day practicing for Sunday morning and having large group sessions. These were excellent and very applicable. It's absolutely amazing how God focused everything is!
Later that night our host homes picked us up. We stayed with Bruce and Joanne Crum who were some of the most hospitable people have ever met. By we, I mean Joe and Tommy, who are on one of the Heartsong Teams, and Chase and I. Chase is the team leader of MP1. Bruce and Joanne had 3 daughters and have only ever hosted girls in the past but this was their first time hosting guys. I think Bruce liked this a lot, because once we got there we made a fire and made hot dogs, sausages, and s'mores. lol it was awesome, but not as awesome as fire kites! Fire kites are newspapers folded in such a way that they have a pocket of air in it. When you put it in the fire the air heats up in the center and it shoots up in the air.. like 50ft! So basically you have a floating fire ball. Eventually it just turns to ash in the air. We did this for what seemed like hours, and it was so fun.
Friday was the same, lots of fun practicing and going to sessions. We played some ultimate after dinner, Drama teams vs. Heartsong. We totally owned lol. That day we finished a complete show and video taped it. This allowed us to watch ourselves and see how we were doing. The show is so much fun btw. The puppet show is about the characters trying out for a Bible skit about David and King Saul. They try out and then preform the actual Bible story. The theme is love. We also do the Balloon game, which I am leading the cheers for. We also come out and do a memory verse. After practice we retired to our host home once again. Tonight they offered us that we used their hot tub, so we all got shorts on an hopped in lol. very nice i must say.
today (saturday) we set up our stuff at the place we would be doing our show on Sunday, in what they called the happy village. (the basement of the church was decorated like a mini town for the kids.) We also learned a song with the puppets that we would do called "Joy, Joy, Joy" aka "The Arm Crusher" because it has a gajillion.. yes a gajillion syllables and your forearm feels like falling off when your done. good song though! my forearm is huge! hehe ;-)
Saturday we also took a trip to Indianapolis, where we did a photo scavenger hunt! check my facebook soon, MP2 took some awesome pictures! We walked all over, but.. you really just gotta look at the pics.
Sunday we did a 15 minute show for the 3+4 year olds. So cute! lol they loved the puppets. We sang Joy Joy Joy, Tim did "The Wiggles" (you kinda have to see it haha) and then we sang "You Shall Love the Lord Your". Afterwards we brought out the puppets and let them give them high fives and hugs. Some were a little afraid of the puppets but eventually they warmed up to them. We then did a half an hour show for the other group, which was basically the same, it just included a mini version of the puppets show. It all went really well. After church we found out that Lifeline, not MP2 won the photo scavenger hunt. Oh well. They got a starbucks gift card for their team. Later we left for home.. and now I'm here, writing this blog!
(really.. I will try and post more often haha)
